Why it costs nothing
We have to survey the board to configure AutoMate properly anyway, so we absorb that engineering cost upfront. We only win if the numbers stack up for you; that is skin in the game, not a giveaway.

An engineer at your distribution board, a site visit, and usually someone else’s approval. A real engagement, not a form to fill in.
It’s the same box as AutoMate
DataMate isn’t a cut-down product or a different device. It is the same control unit, in monitoring mode: read-only, software-limited so it measures but never switches.
That matters for one practical reason: if you later move to AutoMate there is no second installation. We switch control on.
What gets measured
A current transformer goes on every circuit in the distribution board, not a whole-cabin total, and not a sample. Heaters, air conditioning, water boiler, sockets, lights, and the critical always-on circuits like Wi-Fi and showers that we would never switch anyway.
We measure every circuit, including the ones we will never touch, life-safety circuits, and every circuit excluded from control. Being outside our control is not the same as being outside the data. Which circuits we never control, and why.
Alongside that, the sensors: door, occupancy, temperature and humidity. Consumption on its own tells you a heater ran. Consumption plus occupancy tells you it ran in an empty room.

What shows up while it settles
Monitoring runs until consumption settles into a real baseline. These are the things that come back repeatedly, across real boards.
Out-of-hours consumption
Load on circuits at times when nobody is on site. Usually heating, sometimes a water boiler nobody knew was on a timer.
Doors propped open
Door sensors read against heating load. A cabin heating the compound is invisible on a bill and obvious in the data.
Lights in empty rooms
Lighting circuits drawing while occupancy reads zero, overnight, weekends, and through quiet afternoons.
Drying rooms running empty
Heaters, dehumidifiers and fans all live in a room with nothing in it. Often the single biggest line on the board.
Hidden and faulty heaters
Appliances nobody knew were there, and ones drawing far more than they should. That is a kit fault, not a habit.
Heating and cooling together
Two independent controls in one cabin, one calling for heat and one for cooling. Both run. Neither reads as a fault.
These are findings that recur across sites, not a prediction about yours. What your cabins are actually doing is exactly what the free monitoring period is for.
Two meetings, both booked the day DataMate goes in
The Wastage Review. Not "a few weeks after": a date in the diary from day one, moved only if your consumption hasn’t settled by then. We go through your own baseline with you: what is being used, where the waste is, and what it is costing at your electricity rate, the one you give us, not an assumption. That is where you find out whether AutoMate is worth doing on your site. Sometimes it isn’t, and we will say so.

The Savings Review, one week after AutoMate goes live, if you go ahead. We come back and prove the saving actually landed, against the baseline you already agreed. Both meetings are in the diary before the first sensor is fitted.
One thing worth knowing before you pick a start date: the season your baseline lands in changes the number, and a strong figure from a mild period is a floor rather than a ceiling. We tell you which kind of period yours is rather than let it flatter or undersell itself. How we calculate savings sets out why.
What happens after the study
We cannot tell you what you will save until we have measured both halves.
Monitoring until consumption settles gives us your baseline, the seven days ending the day before the control goes on. The other half is the seven days beginning the day after, with the control switched on. The changeover day itself is excluded from both halves, 14 of 15 consecutive days, read straight off the same meter with no scaling or normalisation applied. Neither figure is modelled.
That week is free too. Nothing is invoiced for it, and nothing is committed by it. It is not a favour; it is the only way to produce a number that means anything about your site.
At that Savings Review, the decision is binary: leave the control on for the rest of the project, or we switch it back to baseline and you keep the monitoring. There is no third option and no notice to give.

Why there’s a call
Each unit is real hardware, and our engineers commission a limited number of sites a week. We would rather establish that your site is a good fit than ship kit that ends up sitting in a container.
It also means we can tell you honestly if the answer is no.
What the booking form asks
How many cabins or bays. Expected duration. Whether there is air conditioning. The cabin mix, offices, drying rooms, canteens. Who pays the electricity bill, and at what rate.
That second-to-last one matters more than it looks; on some contract forms the saving lands with the client rather than with you.
